Über Timetrotter

Simple foot soldiers, such as the Roman "miles gregari", formed the spine of every force since the beginning of human culture they are the "universal solders". Legionnaires spread the Roman Empire in great parts of Europe and later protected it.

Timetrotter offers a high-quality infantry for all illustrated eras and cultures which is suitable for museums, stages and simulated battles.

Even if, in terms of quantity, only a small impression of the fighting power and the importance of the ground troops can be shown, the interaction with other sorts of troops or even the contrast to the cavalry illustrates the impressive accomplishment of those "universal soldiers". Without them, neither Alexander the Great, nor Caesar or Napoleon would have been able to gain their military successes.

Besides, we try to give vivid impressions of the everyday duties a foot soldier had, such as the cleaning of arms, the grinding of corn, the preparation of meals, the daily training with weapons or the less popular redoubting.

We demonstrate which equipment and armament was available and how and to what effect it was used. Even though the explanation of the armament is always extremely fascinating, trying to carry the field pack yourself or taking a look into the dormitories of the accommodations show the hard conditions under which a campaign was usually undertaken.

Such a journey back into history also demonstrates the surprisingly high standard of Roman technology and civilisation. This standard has only been accomplished recently after a long developmental process. Up to the mid-nineteenth century, all troops which are simulated by Timetrotter could only dream of such logistics, armaments and health care. Timetrotter likes to demonstrate the exciting and direct comparison of different ages and cultures by confronting them with each other.
